New Year’s Eve Cabaret Show This Is Burlexe

We’re very proud to be presenting the New Year’s Eve Cabaret Show This Is Burlexe at our favourite new venue, Cecil’s.

This Is Burlexe is a combination of our sister burlesque show Burlexe and male burlesque show Boylexe and takes our audience on a loose romp through the history of burlesque with stories, song, burlesque, quizzes, fun, games, DJs and dancing.

From Boylexe comes our host with the most Alp Haydar and our boylesquer par excellence, Mr Phil InGud and from Burlexe comes burlesque heroine Miss Glory Pearl, ingenue Emma Fisher and showgirl on the up and up, Ms Felicity Furore.

The doors open at 9pm and the first part of the show starts at approximately 9.30pm.

Cecil’s is at 8 Holyrood Street, London SE1 2EL and the nearest tube station is London Bridge.

Cecil’s is located in the back alleys of London Bridge and known for its array of house cocktails, featuring the herbs and spices of the Orient. We encourage everyone to dress to the nines to embrace the eras of extravagance that the club aims to echo, including the nightlife of 1930’s Shanghai.

We can’t wait to see you!!

The show has been on hiatus while the Shadow Lounge is refurbished, the reopening late spring is one of Soho’s most highly anticipated events. ‘We can’t wait to have Boylexe back in the new Shadow Lounge, it’s such a unique show that really fits with the venue. It’s been such a highlight over the past couple of years that we’re delighted to have it and the boys as part of our very exciting future.’ – Calum Ducat, The Shadow Lounge.

Male striptease show Boylexe host Alp Haydar has been speaking to QX Magazine about growing up gay and Muslim.

He says, ‘You grow up viewing the world around you with cynicism, and sometimes envy – and however much acceptance was on offer through friendly teachers at school, or progressive commentary in media, being gay felt wrong, and very much like “the infidel’s problem” – not something you had any dialogue for at home, because within our community it just didn’t exist.’

But of course, we’d be nothing without your support, so a huge thanks to everyone who’s come to see us waggling our business and telling our stories and an extra special shout-out to those of you who’ve come back again and again!

And because it’s the end of the year and we’re feeling a bit special, we’re asking some of our crew what have been their personal highlights from the past year

‘My favourite moments of Boylexe are every moment of applause that was directed at me personally. None of the crap I had to share with others.’- Mr Mistress.

‘My highlight has been getting my very own speaking part after a year of looking after these prima donnas and then getting to outshine them every single time!’Bobby Dee’vah

‘So it’s been an amazing year and the show has changed so much. I have loved meeting this crazy bunch of people! We’ve had so many great audiences! And I look forward to coming back next year and see where we can take it next year! New acts new craziness!’Phil In Gud
‘I think my personal highlight was seeing Mr Mistress tear down the house last week. Describing three birthday boys in the front row as “Starter, main course and dessert” was the funniest I’ve heard all year too! This show is such a pleasure to be a part of.’Randolph Hott
‘Kele Le Roc. Rollerskates. Xanadu. DREAM. COME. TRUE’ – director, Jayne Hardy

‘I’ve only just popped my Boylexe cherry, but of course having the gorgeous Jo king orchestrating all the boys was a highlight last Friday and my opening night the week before was great fun – I always love a new crowd and venue.’Nick Stiletto

We will be back in the New Year. And we’ve got lots of exciting plans lined up for 2014, so see you on the other side. Thank you again all for your support.
